At last available on CD, this recording shot Trevor Barnard to fame in 1962 when released on HMV. The first stereo recording of this fine British concerto, it was subsequently re-issued by EMI as part of its “Great British Concertos” set in the 70s. (Digitally remastered)
This is a broad, optimistic work – bold and pioneering but also conservative in many respects – rather like the American people to whom it is dedicated!
